Converting iTUNES music

My girlfriend has an iPOD and has iTUNES set up on my computer. I downloaded a song I would like to use for non-commercial use. I paid the $.99 and as far as I'm concerned am within my rights to pop that song into a vanity project. I cannot for the life of me get this iTUNES song converted to a format Premiere can recognize. Any suggestions?

I did a search and read something about a program called HYMN. Thing is, HYMN wont work with the latest version of iTUNES. And, I can't install an earlier version without deleting the current 6.0 version that I have and losing all of her songs.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated...

i just ran into a similar issue...i'm currently finishing a wedding dvd and it's up to the client to provide music, they sent me a iPod tune with the following file extension - m4a; i could not import into premiere 2.0 or audition 2.0; so i ended up searching for a converter and downloaded the following product:

http://www.xilisoft.com/audio-converter.html

worked perfectly! i've yet to pay for it...just used the trail version; i hope this works for you...i like oranges more than apples :)

btw..i'm not sure the format iPod uses...hopefully it's the same one that i ran into...i just ended up converting the file to mp3

Hey, that sounds awesome! I am going to take a look at it. I also stumbled across a converter called SOUNDTAXI. My iPOD song was also MP4 and had the dreaded LOCK on the icon due to the DRM encoding on iTUNES files.

I used the trial of SOUNDTAXI and the good news is, it worked! The bad news is, the trial version only unlocks the first 30 seconds of the song. Also, I was unable to get any audio from the file once in PREMIERE. I have a feeling that is a PREMIERE issue, since once unlocked, I was able to navigate that song to Quicktime, to AVI, to AIFF, etc. But, once in PREMIERE, no sound. Any ideas???

If I can get it to work, I just might buy the danged software. Its only $14.90. And thats tough to beat!

Itunes uses the AAC format for their songs and they all have DRM protection on them.
if a song is protected it's extension is .m4p if it's not then it's .m4a
The easiest free way to get around the encryption is to burn it as a audio cd in itunes then re-import the song. Now if it's in the .m4a extension itunes will convert that for free for you. What you have to do is going into edit, preferences , import tab then change the encoder from aac to mp3.
Next put the song in itunes unless it's already in itunes.
After that just right click on the songs and go to convert selection to Mp3 :)

Success ! The itunes master strikes again

SilverWolf! You are the MAN and the MASTER!

I followed your steps and BLAM! Worked like a freaking charm! And, it managed to kill 2 birds with one stone. Premiere likes the MP3 file.

Thanks again!
Rick
PS "F" spending $14.90!
