Converting DVD to .mov file. Best workflow

If I have a standard dvd that I am trying to convert to a QT.mov file. How should I convert it in Mpegstreamclip? I want to use a h.264 codec since it seems most compatible these days.

The dvd was shot in standard definition so my assumption would be to convert it at a 720x480 frame size. Also I am assuming that it was shot interlaced and that I should keep it interlaced with the upper field being the dominant field.

Want to be sure that this is the work flow and direction best suited for my project and to see what others would do in a similar situation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

This is supplemental footage for a documentary I shot at 1920x1080 at 30i.

I know how to use mpegstreamclip, what I was asking was what settings I should use. Like the frame size?

I dont know where I heard that from. That is why I posted this. What codec do you suggest then?

How big are the originals? 720x480? 1920x1080? AHHH...you say SD, so then you want to convert it to SD...720x480.

If SD, then DV/50 or ProRes for SD. DV/NTSC possibly, but you say you need to mix this with 1080i HD?

I'm not sure that MPEG STREAMclip will upconvert well. But you can always try. Export as 1080i ProRes and see what you get. Then try DV50 and use Compressor to upconvert to 1080i ProRes, and see. Compare and see what you like best.
