Converting 60i to 24p

Hi,

Does anyone know if it's possible to render 60i Widescreen footage, in Vegas 5, into 24p Widescreen without it coming out blurry?

I tried rendering it with 2-3 pulldown and 2-3-3-2 pulldown and it comes out blurry. The reason I need to do it is that I have to render my whole project as one piece and I have a 60i segment sandwiched between the rest of the film that's shot as 24p Widescreen.

Anyone know what I can do?

Two possibilities here --

1) You used "Blend Fields" instead of "Interpolate Fields." Check on that, and if this is what you did, use "Interpolate Fields." (Deinterlace method in project properties.)

or

2) The 60i clip has too much camera motion to make a good conversion to 24p.

Any chance of posting a clip?

Regarding too much camera movement, the scene is actually very static, so there's no motion blur involved.

Could you give me a little more detail on the "Blend/Interpolate" fields procedure? I'm not familiar with that. Do I set that in the Project Properties and then still render the 60i as 24p Widescreen?

Yes, that's what you do.

Again, I'd like to see a shot of what you're talking about. What is "blurry"?

Keep in mind that no matter what, you['re going to lose vertical resolution when you make the conversion. Though, if it's a VERY static shot, then "Blend Fields" might be better. It'll keep more of the resolution, but any moving objects may have ghosting around them.

I tried both Blend and Interpolate and the 60i as 24p still came out fuzzy. By fuzzy I mean hazy. You can still see people and details but there is definite loss of definition. And it's not just the moving objects, people sitting talking are fuzzy and it's not really a ghosting.

Unfortnately, I don't think I can post attachment. The Posting Rules at the bottom left say I can't, even though in my profile I have "Show Images (including attached images and images in code)" as being selected. Is there something else I can do to post an attachment?

And if there isn't, do you have any ideas what I can do?

"Blend Fields" will give you the least amount of resolution loss. But no, there's no way to convert without SOME loss.
