Converting 4:3 sequence back to 16:9 anamorphotic?

The problem is the following: A colleague has edited a 30min. docu feature in a 4:3 sequence because it is going to be on air that way. The source material is 16:9 anamorphotic from MiniDV tape and has been captured correctly (capture files are 16:9 anamorphotic when viewed with quicktime player).
Now I was trying to convert the edited sequence back to anamorphotic 16:9 to get full quality DVD copies, and not just letterboxed 4:3 DVDs.
However, when I copy the timeline to a 16:9 sequence, or change the sequence settings to anamorphotic, then FCP handles the material like letterboxed 4:3 and squeezes it down.

Is there any chance to get the edited sequence back to its original 16:9 anamorphotic format? The source capture clips are, as I said before, definitely 16:9 anamorphotic, so it should be possible, at least in theory

The version of FCP is 4.5 HD (a little dated, I know...) and we're talking PAL, but that shouldn't make a difference, I guess.

By the way it's not an option to edit the whole thing again... it's 30 minutes long and there has already been going a lot of work into it.

Here's what I'd do...

Copy paste all the edits into a 16:9 sequence.

Select all and under sequence or modify there's a command for take offline. When you find it and do it it will make all the clips 'red'.

Then, select all again and RECONNECT back to the original material.

This MIGHT make it look all jacked up with really odd aspects, or maybe not, but I think in 4.5 it will.

BUT no problem. Just select all again and right click one of the clips and select REMOVE ATTRIBUTES. Then just select the DISTORT button only and it will fix the aspect ratio for you.

But now thinking it thru... you might actually be able to do this skipping steps two thru the end by just using the remove attributes and maybe a render trash.

Anyway -- no, it WON'T be difficult.

Thanks a lot CaptainMench, you totally saved my day!

It worked exactly like you said.
I had thought of re-connecting the clips myself (which didn't work obviously), but I'm sure I'd never had the idea to remove attributes.

Thanks again!
