Convert NTSC to PAL

Hello people

This topic might have been covered and I did a thorugh search, no avail. I need in great immediance to convert an NTSC file to PAL. What is the best way?

1) Through FCP? using DV PAL 48k?

2) Through Cleaner?

Ok, let me reiterate:

Is there a way that I can convert NTSC to PAL using the programs Ive already paid thousands for? No offense Nattress but come on bro.

Sure, but....

Just putting a NTSC clip in a PAL timeline in FCP sill produce a stuttery mess. That's why I developed my plugin in the first place,

or

you can use Compressor2, which when set to full quality, does a nice job, but will take you about 40 times as long to render as my plugin. Again, that's why I use my plugin, rather than the software I payed $1000's for.

Okay Okay, I'll think about it. Thanks

If your clip is short, or you have the time, compressor is great. I don't think cleaner is any good for this kind of thing though - at best it would do the rough conversion that FCP does.

OK. You've spent thousands on your camera. You've spent thousands on software (that will cost you several hundred in a couple of years to upgrade). And you can't spend another $100 on what is probably the best solution for FCP users to accomplish this task?

Graeme Nattress has been charging $100 for several years for his standard conversions filters. He contributes loads of info on this (and other) boards, and he gives you free upgrades to the software forever. Let me repeat that. HE GIVES YOU FREE UPGRADES FOREVER!

I am not a full time editor, or even full time filmmaker. Yet I find Nattress filters one of the most incredible values out there. This is one guy who has made great products and offers them at a VERY reasonable price with the best support you'll ever find. You can't go wrong getting his filters.

Thanks Joe!

However, I do understand $100 is a lot to ask, especially when it's the sort of thing that you'd think that the tool-set you've bought would do as a standard feature. But if all NLEs came with every feature you'd ever need, there'd be no room for the little guy like myself. Fortunately, there's always niches.

I thought that nobody would want the standards converter after Compressor 2 came out. Then I did a render in compressor 2 to see what it was like, and I was amazed at how utterly slow it was. That said, Standards Conversion does so much more than just convert between PAL and NTSC.

If I'd been asked about PAL to NTSC, I could also suggest de-interlacing, and then using cinema tools to conform from 25p to 24p, and hence be able to make a NTSC 24p DVD. That's another "free" solution but it doesn't work the other way around.

Hey dont get me wrong, I honestly do appreciate the low price you offer for your video software, I mean anything out there is 800 and above so I really appreciate what youre doing. But having the first answer to my post, buying something isnt the first on my list if you know what Im saying.
But if the demand increases for conversion, Nattress baby...you are on the first of my list

I fully understand - that's why I don't just plug my product, but give you the alternatives with their pros and cons, so you can make an educated descision. No hard sell from me!

I wish the Nattress Standards converter would have been out a few years ago. After doing a shoot at RESFEST in South Africa I tried FCP, AE, Cleaner and spent many hours testing and processing to no avail. I finally had to pay a couple hundred bucks to get the PAL tapes converted at a high end post production facility. So Graeme's the man in my book!
