Convert me to film - I need info , please help :)

I thought I would do the same break down for 16mm (Super16 would be the way to go).

A 400' roll of KODAK VISION3 500T Color Negative Film 7219 costs 160.80. 400' is 10 minutes in 16mm. (40 feet per minute)

Processing is still $0.19 (19 cents) a foot, so one roll would cost $76.00.

Transfer is base on running time so it would still be about a billable half hour or $212.25.

All told, for 10 minutes of 16mm film, to an editable format, is $449.05.

Wow- I shot my first 16mm film in 1976 for a film class in college, cost was included in the tuition but couldn't have been much. I do know that super 8 film cost a few dollars to buy and a few dollars to develop at the local dept store.

So where are we? Taking the above costs for raw stock, processing and transfer your 1000' roll of KODAK VISION3 500T Color Negative Film 5219 will cost you $1,101.75 to get to an editable format. That is for TEN MINUTES of footage.

This is a great fact to stumble across as people are talking about the Ursa Mini, and how a $1,000 CFast card only gets you 11 minutes of recording time. ...Which you can then transfer to a computer and re-use, for free, thousands of times. Somebody cue Louis CK's "Everything is amazing and nobody's happy" bit.

...if you want to enter film festivals..like Sundance (16mm is super looking and super cheap)...it gets noticed...and if you don't live in L.A....again it gets noticed...if you're a dp or director...

for bigger budgeted commercials and movies...35mm is really beautiful and cheaper than renting out an alexa (with the extra post )
