Convert FCP 6 project to XML

I've been handed a few HDD's with a project that I'm trying to edit. I'm still working off FCP 5. The original editor is no longer associated with the project.

I need the original FCP 6 project file converted to an XML so I can work on it in FCP 5.

Could I send the FCP 6 project file (just the project file, not the raw footage or anything) to a friend and have him convert it to XML and have him send it back, I'll open it on my system (with the raw footage) and have it work?

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Different FCP XML format from FCP 5 to FCP 6, lots of changes introduced, you will have a hard time.

Try an EDL...that should work but some transitions and other things tend to fall off the truck in process but it still works well.

Yes. If the other editor used filters or FX that aren't in FCP 5 obviously those won't come across, and you'll have to make sure they export in an XML version that is compatible w/FCP 5. To find out what's the lastest version of XML that FCP 5 supports go File->Export->XML and see what the highest version number is in the "format" drop down menu.
