convert avi to qt

Hi,
I downloaded some free footage, which happened to be in avi format, which FCP, doesn't seem to like. I've been told I need to get "Flip4mac" to convert. Anyone know a free way to fix this. It is only 15 seconds, and I'm not getting paid for this.

I don't remember what flip 4 mac cost, but it wasn't much. I have used it a million times since then. One of the best purchases I ever made.
 
is there a way i can batch convert a bunch of avi files to prores mov files? will there be any quality loss?

sorry if i am couping this thread, but i feel that this question belongs here...
i just exported my avi file to a prores mov file with QTpro. later when i import the clip to fcp, i get a warning the the file is not optimized for fcp!! why is that? i checked the internet and found some similar problems, but no answers...

anyone?

Mac of QT or FCS2 isnt made to read avi files. Stop messing around and grab a copy of flip4mac. Makes life much easier.
