First post, I've lurked here for years but have ALWAYS found answers to my problems by searching. Anyway, I finally have a problem I can't solve by all of your help here (or internet) or my search has failed. Thanks now for all the help over the years.

Problem: Convert 7d 1080p30 to 1080p24 to use with HPX170 720p24n in FCP.

I've shot with DVCPRO HD 720p24n since the HVX200 and used that almost exclusively for everything I've done. Recently I added a Canon 7D to my arsenal and have used 1080p24 with that camera and integrated that with the Panny footage. I've used MPEG Streamclip to convert the 7D footage to Pro-Res for integration.

Well somewhere along on my last gig I shot the Canon footage at 1080p30, hopefully that's not a huge mistake? What can I do to convert this footage to 24p? I've never used Cinema tools before, if I need to do some type of transformation with that app, so if that's the way, please explain. Also, if this is the method than what is first? Transform 7D footage to Pro-Res then convert to 24p or vice-versa. Or if something different, what are your suggestions?

System and Apps:
2010 MBP 17" i7, 8gb Ram
Lion OSX 10.7.2
FCP Studio 7.0.3
Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection is available

Note: I have the original 7D .MOV files but not .THM that go with them. So this eliminates the use of the EOS FCP Plug-In, correct? That is, IF anyone was going to suggest using that...

Thanks!

30p does not convert well to 24p no matter what software you use. You're going to get choppiness, ghosting, or both, and it'll be worse the more in motion things are. You're probably better off just leaving it as 30p.

I was afraid I'd hear that, and suspected so.

So... Do I just drop both on the timeline? The DVCPRO HD 720p & the 7D 1080p30 converted to Pro-Res?

I'd test it in Cinema tools first. It's super easy to use and will take no time at all. Wouldn't hurt to try. Sometimes it works out.

BenB, ok, like I said, I've never used Cinema tools. How would I go about that? Do I run clips through Cinema tools first? How so? Then, convert to Pro-Res? Or... Vice-Versa? Mainly I don't understand the difference between reverse telecine and conform.

I tried a couple Cinema Tools tests and it slowed down the footage (made the clips longer), so that is not good. Anyone else have any suggestions on how to convert the 30p to 24p regardless of how it may look after, albeit hopefully acceptable?
