Dumb Question-

A very famous FCP user is talking about shooting with the Canon 5d mark 2 @ 30FPS then using compressor and then using Cineform to out to 24P..?

Doesn't Sony Vegas Pro do this really well already? Drop it in the timeline and set up the timeline for 24P Or is the Sony Solution a kluge?

I can't sleep...need to know :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Thanks,

Thomas

From what iv heard Yes it does tho you must change ur settings to interpolate

EDIT
...Oops what i said does not apply to 30p but 30i

The problem isn't Vegas or any other method of conversion. It's that 30p doesn't convert well to 24p, or vice versa. This is because the frame rates are too close together for a good conversion.

You'll end up with nasty strobing and probably some ghosting.

There are four ways to convert 30p to 24p, none is ideal:
1. Slow it down 25% (rate of 0.800)
2. Re-time it (audio too, many steps)
3. Resample it (ghosting)
4. Drop frames (by disabling resample)

As I said, none offers a good result. If you need 24p, just buy a camera that does 24p.

That's Interesting...i don't know why i thought he said convert 30i to 24p
I saw someone here say that shooting at 60p for slow motion would be better than 60i..but im wondering if converting 60p to 24p(considering the disadvantages you've stated) will make it better than shooting at 60i.makes sense i hope.

If you want slow-motion, 60p is just fine. Slow it down 150% (2.5x) and it will become 24p. But it will be slowed-down, if that's what you need. Also make sure you have "disabled resample" in the timeline clips.
