Conversion .mov to something Vegas can understand

Hi,
I just got a Kodak Zx1 HD camera which saves video in .mov format. I've searched here, and looked online for a conversion program, but I'm at a loss as to which program will give me the least loss, and which format I should convert to.

I'm running Vegas 8.1.

Do you have quicktime installed on your machine? If not, install the latest version.

The Kodak site says that the file is a H264 video. That's a pretty standard type that Vegas should handle just fine. But the .mov wrapper might be fooling with it.

Try this. Rename the video file from xxxx.mov to xxx.mp4 and see if you can open it in Vegas.

If I have totally misunderstood your question and you simply want a format to convert to, then there are several options. Cineform is nice, but costs money. There are some other pretty good options and not all of them cost money.

Honestly, I'd look into that proxy format though. Makes a lot of things much easier.

I got Quicktime installed, but re-naming to mp4 did not work. I guess what I'm looking for is a way to convert the .mov file to whatever gives me the least loss and that will also work with Vegas.

The camera comes with "ARCsoft Mediaimpression for Kodak" which has a converter in it. But it seems very slow (47+ min to convert 229GB), and really "consumer oriented" lay-out and functionality.

Then again, it's a below $150.- consumer oriented camera, so I should probably keep my expectations in check.
