Convergent Design Apollo 4 Channel HD Switcher Recorder Announced

I was just comparing the 7Q+ and the Apollo. The Tricaster I was thinking of is the "40" product which retails for $5,000. Good luck with product.
Understood. There is little difference between an Odyssey7Q+ with Apollo Option v an Apollo, hence the prices are similar. Certainly the Odyssey w/option is the better value if you have any interest in the additional features and I encourage everyone to go that route.

The Tri-Caster is an interesting product but made for different uses than Apollo. No one is going to stick a Tri-Caster in a car for multicamera recording, or shove it in a camera bag to hop on a plane for a multicamera location interview. The Tri-Caster also does not record all the camera ISOs. Not denigrating the product, it has many features Apollo does not. But there is also little overlap between the products.

Anyway, agreed on a number of your points and we do intend to add features going forward as makes sense. Thanks again for the perspective.

This looks like a $800 solution to the graphics capability.

One thing, which is either a downside or upside, is that this would be added after the Apollo, so you wouldn't record graphics on the switched feed, which is nice to have a clean feed if you want to re-add graphics later in post, but sucks because maybe you'll need another recorder if you want to record the graphics live.

Though for how cheap Atomos recorders are, that wouldn't be bad to have another record after the TC-200 CG.

Personally, I've done a number of projects where we're sending to IMAG (screens in the venue) & to a webcast. Some of the IMAG screens have captioning which doesn't play nice with lower thirds, so I would actually prefer to have a clean feed for the IMAG AND a CG feed for the webcast.

Plus when I'm not switching a live event, this would be great for a two camera interview shoot.

Most streaming and display systems are 1080i/720p. Even if the inputs are 1080p, Apollo can be set for 1080psf output, which will be read by these devices as a 1080i stream. Odyssey has this option already.
