control focus with notebook

Hej,

soon I am going to shoot a music video on HD, propaply with Sonys Z1 or maybe with the HVX-200. At the moment I dont have a control monitor and thats why i am worried about the focus.

What about controlling the focus with my notebook. My display has a resolution of 1920x1200 what shoud be enough. We are not shooting anything outdoors so the brightness shouldnt be a problem. I would connect the notebook through firewire.

Is this basicly possible and is there a way do display the signal fullscreen?

Thanks.

The only cam that lets you control it from the notebook would be the Canon, using their Console software. Sony allows for remote focus through its LANC jack, and Panasonic can use a remote focus controller as well, just not LANC.

As far as using a notebook as a full-screen monitor, run (don't walk) to Serious Magic and check out DV Rack 2.0 HD. It's perfect for that application.

you will need dvrack to monitor via notebook

you can also plug in an hdtv or even an SD tv or monitor to check focus, although SD wont be as accurate due to downressing
