contre-jour / into the sun , ND...

actual dvx100A user here (yeah, I know- shudder)....whenever I've toyed with shooting contre-jour / into the sun whatevers, Ive had to stop down mucho-much, even with the 1/64 filter on, so much that all is black. Do folks usually need a stronger filter for this, or is there something I'm not doing? Thanks.

Bounce cards.... Cant imagine anything shot against the sun without diffusion or bounce cards will look good with any camera.
