Can anyone tell me where to find standard contract forms, specifically to option a book? And if you have any other advice or counsel for me on optioning properties, I be obliged to hear it.
Each deal is negotiable based on lots of factors, 1 year, two year, renew the deal, minimum and maximum pay based on budget when it goes into production. Sequels, whether title of film is same as story or not, etc. I went through a lawyer that specialized in options and it took some back and forth between my lawyer and the author's agent and was tailored to this specific story and plans for the story.
You may find some generic ones on the Internet but I would suggest you still pass it by a lawyer familiar with this type of law.
