Content deliverables are getting extensive!

With many different deliverables being requested, depending on the project, sometimes it feels like the real work is staying organised in the NLE.

While labelling files is nothing new, for me it's been critical to come up with an easily identifiable file name, as well as folders.

To compound possible headaches, vimeo is awful. The "replace video" function often doesn't replace the videos, which is a huge pain when we're potentially talking about extremely small changes like micro shifts in text to stay in safe areas etc. Previous workflow I'd establish a link per video, with no need to view previous versions, then any updates would use these links. Now, I make a new link per updated version. Some might sasy the "replace" function could be viewed as a bonus and we're lucky to have it at all, but IMO it's nowhere near good enough. What do people use other than vimeo? I've hated the viewing experience for more than 10 years but assume others are even worse but worth checking what else is out there - please share if above and beyond better than vimeo, no sideways moves!

Back to the topic, here's an example of current day deliverables:

- 15 (usually multiple 15s), 30 and 60 seconds, nothing too new, but in the following resolutions:

1920x1080
1080x1920
1080x1080
1080x1350

So 12 videos above, all potentially with bizarre (getting more normal) safe areas for tiktok etc. But then potentially doubling this to 24 if baked in subtitles are required (because using in-house text might be important vs. auto generated captions). Then traditional broadcast TV slots will have their own set of specs, which are much simpler to adhere to because they're usually all taken care of when exporting. I did something recently and ended up providing 40 (!) links to download.

Not everyone company needs to use tiktok, but often PR companies just request a huge list of deliverables across many different platforms "just in case".

To be clear, this isn't a complaint because it's still just time working in post production, but the time working on all different versions and exporting is getting crazy!

Yup, was already overwhelmed with so many exports like 5 years ago (not saying you are, but I was, lol).

I dreaded it and can't imagine how it is now.

But as far as Vimeo, I have replaced videos there since that feature existed and you can still use the same link (I just did a few days ago).

Why are you sending new links? Because the video doesn't replace for you?

If it doesn't replace, I would contact support...that feature has never failed me. Always works perfectly.

With that said, I so so so much dislike (only using the word dislike because I don't like to use the word hate) all of the changes Vimeo has made the last decade, with every year becoming more cluttered and worse than the year before.

There are a ton of competitors these days...here's one link: https://www.dacast.com/blog/vimeo-alternatives/

Frame.io isn't on there which I think is used a lot too, probably some others.

Yeah, new links only because replacing doesn't always work for me. I could be expecting things to happen too quickly, but I'm pretty sure I've done replacements and overnight it still hasn't replaced.

Thanks for the link, I'm sure it's a case of what's the least bad option but will check it out properly.

Frame.io has been the standard for me for several years now.
Do you use it to deliver videos as well as for feedback?

How is it better than vimeo for sharing videos (if at all)?

How is it better than email for feedaback?

Re collaboration, I could be way off, but I'm not really sold on the collaborative in-app side of things, maybe because some of the frame.io promos felt a little forced. A collaborator circles an area of the frame with a note "can we make this brighter?" It seems like it'd be more for agencies etc vs. feedback along the lines of "lose these two shots and we're good to go."

I'm sure it's capable, but I initially dismissed the product a because of the marketing but maybe it's worth revisitng.

Irrelevant notes.

Im loving my zcam 'open gate' 5.4 format to crop to upright or landscape

My naked C200 is on the next job due to the inbuild ND and being smaller and lighter than a built zcam.

If I buy another camera Im thinking the C400 might not be it as an R1 or R3 are nice to shoot in portrait.

I have timelines in resolve 'joes_job' and 'joes job_insta' .. Im usuallly producing 16-9 and 9-16

Yes, I'll occasionally deliver videos via Frame.io but I'll also just send a Google Drive link if I have a lot of files to deliver. Mostly because I have way more storage on my Google Drive than I do in Frame.io. I have Frame.io as a function of having an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. So I get 100 GB of "free" storage in my Frame.io account. I try to use frame.io mostly for reviews and not file delivery so I don't use up all of that storage.

I'm afraid I can't speak specifically to Vimeo, I don't use that platform for video reviews. But I do know that I simply upload a revised version of a video to frame.io and can resend the exact same link throughout the life of the project. No need to create new share links over and over.

It's better than email because it allows for time stamped or frame specific feedback. (As long as you can get the client to use it in the way it's intended, instead of sending their feedback via email, but that's not really frame.io's fault.) I almost never get notes like you described with reviewers making requests by drawing on the frames, although you certainly can get that type of stuff. Mostly it's the standard stuff. "Let's cut the section from 1:29 - 1:45." or "Can we put some b-roll in here at 2:45 - 2:52." etc.

I also forgot to mention that I am annoyed enough with vimeo to fill in thier surveys and also jab them on linked in.

Thanks @DustinSchmidt,

Is there an element of educating new clients about the workflow? Do they just have to create an account then can get going, or is there a learning curve?

I'm going for a c80 and r52 set up, but need to sell my pair of c200s. I haven't been able to sell them yet though, so I might be in c200 limbo forever!
