Contagion - Steven Soderbergh

Am I the only one who thinks this movie looks REALLY boring? Only Damon could bring me around. Soderbergh's other new film, Haywire, looks like crap as well, probably even more so - at least Contagion doesn't look like it was filmed for two pennies and a half-cup of cold coffee.

Wow, I was underwhelmed from the images when I saw the trailer. I suppose this was shot with just available light again but this one looks like crap. What's that shot with Matt Damon in front of the window? It's not like it just looks bad, it's distracting. So EPIC can look that bad? Or the shot with Kate Winslet on the phone - is it just me or is that burning hot spot from the lamp distracting? Something went wrong down the line?!

To clarify, a good portion of the film was shot with the Red One MX.

Is it supposed to be a horror? The trailers made it look like some kind of event drama... if it's supposed to be creepy or horror-type s..t, then it might be worth a watch. Would you recommend it then, Brandon?

Even though they both use natural light, the difference in style and format between contagion and tree of life is huge. Michael Mann doesn't hide the digital nature of the cameras he uses either. I go back and forth with what I like. But I tend to try to stay away rom digital blow outs.

Here is a film maker who posts here. his film uses extreme digital aesthetic in almost an organic way: http://www.vimeo.com/27360025

It's more of an event drama seen through different perspectives. However, my stomach was in knots by the end of the film... not freak out horror, but horrific nonetheless. It's very real feeling.

And yes, I recommend it.

This is a great featurette on Soderbergh that was included in the Criterion Collection edition of CHE. I don't know when the dude has time to sleep.

The pacing was a little slow, thought it would of been a lot better, but the ending kind of made up for it, 5/10.

I don't want to have to watch it again or wait for Netflix so if anyone can help me out with that ending that would be great

MIGHT BE SPOILER

That tractor at the end, what company logo is that? I do remember seeing the LOGO throughout the film but then when it came to
that last frame in the jungle, I couldn't remember where I recognize that company logo from. I would appreciate any clarification
on that.

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT

And If I'm not mistaken, was the disease in the Banana? Because when the bat took a piece of the banana, then it dropped it down to the PIG, I was a bit confused about that. And lastly, Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't patience ZERO as indicated, I would think the Chef was patient ZERO correct?

END SPOILER

But, it was entertaining, nothing special like 12 Monkeys or 28 Days.

It was the company that the wife worked for.

Cap, the bat was diseased, the piece of banana that fell out of its mouth was eaten by the pig.
The disease changed/mutated when it went from the bat to the pig, and then spread to the cook that prepared the pig.

Paltrow can still be patient zero if the cook was merely a carrier. The cook didn't get sick from my recollection.

I enjoyed the movie.
I would have liked to have cared for some of the characters a little more though.
I never got to see many intimate moments between them.
So I never really "cared" for them.

Cool movie though. A little scary.

Resurrecting this topic. Who's seen Contagion?

I saw it back around when it came out, rewatched it during Ebola, and rewatched again last week. I think it's really good. Very similar to how events are unfolding with Coronavirus. People are now calling it a Coronavirus freakout film, as it's relatable yet reassuring in some ways.
