Consumer DVD Recorders : Has anyone used one for quick DVD burning?

I'm thinking of getting a consumer level DVD recorder for make quick samples of the work I do in FCP. Mostly stuff under an hour. Shot with my DVX100 24pA. Sometimes it takes hours for Compressor to make the Mpeg2 and I just don't want to wait. I want to firewire straight to the recorder form the FCP timeline. Or maybe from the camera.

Does anyone have a DVD recorder? How would the compression look in this scenario?:-Dum(DBG):

I have a couple. A Sony at work, and a new Phillips at home I bought last week. I have not tried to cut DVDs with either from the DVX100. I may give it a shot this week. Hadn't really thought of it to be honest. I just wanted a convenient way to move my VHS and SVHS tapes to DVD without capturing to my PC first.

The Pioneer looks sweet! Very pro. But I have think a bit about the $5000 price tag!

That woud be great if you could try it with footage off your DVX100! Reply back when you try it.

Thanks guys!

Here's a unit that I bought for a job that required real-time DVDs.

The Mpeg2 quality is very good. It's not quite as good as the Mainconcept encoder I normally use but I really had to look hard to see a difference. It also understands 16:9 DV input which is not true for all units.

Lots of ins and outs. I've since used it to do some VHS to DVD transfers for a client and the quality is excellent. It even automatically puts a chapter break every 5 minutes in the resulting DVD. It also records in true S-VHS although not much demand for that these days. My only real gripe is why did they have to design it with a wimpy 4-pin firewire port when there's plenty of room for a 6-pin socket.

Still, I wish I had $5K to get one of those Pioneer units. :)
