Constant crashing beach ball no full screen video FCPX

FCPX worked for a while, but then began to crash upon import or when I attempted to play any clip. It would allow me to view thumbnails
but no preview in the import section or edit section. Bottom line is it works fine when I log out and back in as guest. Solution anyone?

The old beach ball signals "waiting for a device" where do you store your media

Also always look for the unexpected..FCPX was playing up for me, and the mouse refused to click...I thought trash pref/ trash mouse driver ..etc etc..
It turned out a book was leaning on top of my apple trac pad ( I rarely use it)..move the book all back to normal..
