That was a fun clip... honestly I don't care what anybody says, Simon IS... AI... I'd have a hard time watching that stuff if it wasn't for him... he makes it... and the look on his face was priceless as he clearly expected something else.

Me too. ALMOST.
Why do the American shows like Idol and Talent make ashamed of the country and feel like I need a bath and the Brit Talent is kind of like ... moving and stuff.
I echo Mark's cynical sentiment as a concern, hope we are not hearing about her sneaking out of rehab or going to jail for a DUI in 10 years.

I have only seen clips of the Brit shows, so I do not fully know what they are really like ...
but from the small bits I've seen it seems like they are about showing you something extraordinary / beautiful in people you might overlook or reject otherwise, while our shows are just the opposite - take the nerdy misfits and have a laugh at their expense, remind us that we are cooler / arguably better than the sadly deluded contestants.
Two sides of the same coin, one's uplifting, the other ... not so much.

Sadly... the shows that get watched the most make it... it's ratings. (Mr. Obvious here).
I have the unpopular opinion that we, as a society, want to have our cake and eat it too... As soon as somebody complains about something distasteful in our society (not talking sex scenes in movies or story driven violence... but rather "brown bunny" or whatever...) then that person is shunned. It's like we all have to make this black and white choice of either joining the religious right or joining the movie making left... and nobody can be sensibly in the middle w/o offending either or both sides.
Maybe that's almost off-topic, but I think we have a less evolved culture then Britain... and obviously less mature... but nobody wants to do anything about that if it means that THEY must use some restraint in their creative abilities... and eventually you have what we have now... where there's an atmosphere that fosters instant gratification and superficial qualities.

But anyway I really dig it and it is hookup / scandal free and I think it is TLC's top rated show.
I know you are right, but it is possible to make more positive programming, it's just much harder and much riskier.

Haha no I got a day off because I've been working so hard.
