connecting line input to transmitter of sennheiser g2

I shoot events and I would like to use the transmitter of my wireless to get a signal from a sound board to my camera. Would turning down the sensitivity of the transmitter introduce noise into the recording? I have to set the sensitivity of the transmitter to its lowest setting in order to avoid distortion from the peaks. Would the use of an attenuator in between the sound board and the transmitter improve the sound?

I suspect that decreasing the input sensitivity of the G2 transmitter is just the result of attenuating the input signal by the G2. So as long as your transmitter input signal is at a high level without any clipping (which apparently is possible without using an external attenuator), the S:N will be primarily determined by the output of your sound board.

So what do you guys who use the sennheiser g2 find, do you have to crank down the sensitivity of the transmitter to the lowest it can go?

Use line in at the transmitter, for connection se page 91 in the manual

I completely ruined a shoot before I learned to turn down some of the default levels. Since then... no distorted audio and they sound GREAT.

I keep my lav transmitter sensitivity at -20db and the reciever "AF out" at -6. I leave plug on at -10 db... it sounds good there. Hope that helps

That was helpful thanks.

A mate of mine used the G2 today and we had the transmitter set to -30 the lowest setting and the receiver at zero, the dvx at about 10 o'clock. We actually had to turn the line feed down as it was still too hot for the transmitter to cope with at -30. So I guess I learned from this that you need to adjust the levels at 4 places- the mixer, transmitter, receiver and the camera.

By the way the sound was really clean. So much cleaner that what we were getting from the onboard mic.
