Is connecting your field monitor, to assist with editing, only possible via connecting the comp to a video camcorder then the camcorder to the monitor?
I got it to work using a firewire cable from my comp to dvx100a, then s-vid out of the cam to the field monitor, but I don't want to put a lot of extra time on the heads of my dvx.
My girlfriend's cam doesn't have a s-video port. I tried with A/V cables (using her camcorder) and it didn't work.
I went out looking for a cheap consumer camcorder with s-video out port, but no luck so far.
I forgot to mention. My comp has a s-vid port, but doesnt' seem to fix the problem when I directly connect the comp to the field monitor using a s-vid cable. Can anyone help me?
connecting a field monitor via firewire and a camcorder is a common way to use an external monitor and something that i do. It wont effect the heads on your dvx as all the camera is doing is sending a signal through, nothing to do with the heads, so using your dvx is fine. Other options are getting a specialty capture card or breakout box that you can plug a field monitor directly into, some good graphic cards will do this as well. I hear matrox is a good trusted brand, pricey though.
Thanks for the help. It didn't occur to me that I wouldn't be using the heads on the dvx. I'll check into the other options you suggested.
I did find out why my girlfriends camcorder wasn't working. I had to plug in the video and the audio to get it to work, which is dumb b/c my field monitor doesn't have speakers to play audio. I would hook up the RCA video only and it wouldn't work. Plug in the audio too and wa-la. Kinda stupid to me...... *shakes head
Can you use a 2.0 USB to export/transfer (opposed to firewire 6 pin port) video to a external video capture device/card, so it can be connected to the field monitor?
I am looking at the following external video capture cards/devices. I was wondering if they could be used in substitution of the camcorder. Neither have a firewire connection (2.0 USB in substitution).
