Connecting an External Monitor

It seems like I always have problems with this. I have successfully connected to a TV using my HV20 via firewire in the past. But lately I can't get it to work at all. Is there a dedicated piece of hardware, a card or something I can use that will reliably output my timeline to a TV?

Vegas supports Blackmagic Designs and AJA cards. As for reliability, I've generally found Blackmagic somewhat lacking. But that's with HD.

Has anyone had any success using an LCD TV connected via the second d-sub on your graphics card and dragging the preview window to it? I am playing with the idea of one 27"-30" LCD as my editing screen and using 37"-42" LCD TV as a monitor to preview for clients. I would not use it for CC but having clients crowd around a 24" on your desktop to preview is somewhat bothersome IMHO.

If the quality of preview would be sub-standard on a 1920x1080 LDC TV then I would appreciate opinions on the AJA or BlackMagic workflow. We have two Matrox Mini's accomplishing the issue of client preview in our Mac suite's and need to figure out the best solution for Vegas in our other rooms.

Thanks...

You don't have to drag the preview monitor to it. Just set it up as your screen for Windows Secondary Display, and then set up WSD as your preview device. When you click the "TV" icon above the preview window, it'll then preview to that screen, full-screen.

That said, I do actually have a 37" 1080p TV above my other two monitors, and I do have the preview window and other Vegas windows on it.
