hey all,

if i connect a tv through the dvx from fcp, will that do any damage or cause stress to the dvx heads?

thanks

Re: connecting a tv to the fcp through dvx

i actually did this yesterday due to my problems viewing my footage through fcp4 preview. hook firewire through the dv port on the dvx, then put it out to compositre cables. in fcp you'll want to "refresh DV devices" and then turn external video on all frames. it works, but what im wondering is how to hook up this big tv as a second monitor... anyone know how to do it?

Re: connecting a tv to the fcp through dvx

for some reason,

when i hook everything up and play a clip, it doesn't show up on the dvx or tv. what is the right way to hook things up?

thanks

The hooking things up is not the problem (usually). It is menu options. Probably in this case you need to make sure that View -> External Video -> Off is not selected in FCP, and you need to find the setting on your camera that turns on the composite out in VTR mode.

Quick check: I just replied to your thread above. Is this the same question?

michael, you could try going out S-video also, I dont know if they both will send out a signal? Dont they make a splitter for the cables check B&H.

Re: connecting a tv to the fcp through dvx

I just purchased a cable from Apple that puts the mac on TV (DVI to AV cable). Does anyone know how to get the full screen video to show up from within FCP - In other words, I want to be able to take the DVX out of the picture - just FCP and the TV but get the same full screen picture I'd get if I have the DVX in between Final Cut and the TV.

I'm typing from my bed - I'm not going to get up and try it. I've tried that full screen trick on my computer. It worked okay but a bit jerky. Maybe it will play smoothly to the TV. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
