Confusion re DVD format

Hi,
Just seeking some clarification re: formatting of final DVD product.

I'm basically moving to making everything 16x9 however I've noted that when I display this footage on a 4x3 TV (which many people still have) it distorts the picture.

Is this a case of modifying the settings on the TV?

Or do I need to do something in the DVD production process that makes the video look 'normal' on a 4x3 TV...ie. letterboxed?

It's most like the setting on the DVD player. If it's set for widescreen display, it shouldn't be.

That did the trick perfectly..I had the wrong setting on the DVD player (16x9)
