confidence monitoring

hey guys this is going to sound really stupid but for the life of me i cant remember what the device a boom op uses to monitor what sound hes picking up to help him know when hes on axis. i thought it was a wire tap but i couldnt find any that were xlr at b and h.

duplex cable?

or wireless monitor?

or use a belt preamp, where he can send line level to the mixer and power the mic from a unit that has a headphone jack.

thanks alot yeah its a belt preamp thanks. now i guess the next question is what is a good one to get... it doesnt seem like its somthing that would vary to much

Yeah thats not the right term for it though. I'm not sure what they're officially called, sound devices have one i think, and rolls have one.
