Here's an article about "Conduit" from Dv Garage, and the link it's web page, it's AWESOME!

I just downloaded it, going to have to find time to play with it. If it functions as promised, this could open a whole new world to FCP, which already has some of the best compositing tools and abilities of any NLE. I've just glanced over this quickly, and it looks pretty useful, once you learn it. Going to be very interesting...

Thanks for the heads up on this one Ben. It looks very interesting. I love the nodal workflow (back from when I used to work with Shake). It'll be very interesting to give this one a run through and see how it does. I'm especially interested to see if it can maintain its boasts about render times, even with HD footage.

cheers.

$149!! nice.

Let me know what you think of it after a little test flight, or I'll check it out on my own when I have the time. Looks very promising, though.

I have a link to the product directly in my original post. I bought it today for $149. Not sure about any sale price. Says nothing about that on DV Garage's web site.

You have to use the code for discount. Chris Marler of dvGarage posted the code as: vtby366
And the sale is good until midnight Friday.

The final price comes in at just under $100. $99.83 to be exact.

Yeah, found that code just AFTER I paid full price for it. Doesn't make me a very happy camper to pay $50 more than it's actually on sale for. Secret Sales don't impress me. If it's on public sale, post it on the web site, don't slip folks secret coupon codes on selective discussion boards. Just doesn't strike me as being an honest business when folks do secret stuff like that.

Having played with it, there's a learning curve. You're not going to create a killer never-done-before FX right off the bat. You'll have to take time learning it. Not nearly as sophisticated as Shake. But, so far, it looks like a fun toy.

The one big draw back I find, lack of ability to keyframe. You can, but it seems super limited as to what parameters you can actually keyframe. Channel Mixer, for example, is really nice. You can keyframe the opacity of the overall effect, but there's no way to keyframe the individual channels over time.

And it'd be nice to have some way to export your effect once you build it to use on other FCP systems. As is, you can save your work as a Filter Favorite, but then, it's locked into your FCP system and you can't share it with other Conduit users. Some form of exporting of your work would be nice.

It'll be interesting to see what folks come up with.

Hi BenB

Concidering this as well, mostly because of the Shake gammashift issue, and because of the ease of doing stuff within FCP.

But what I'd use it for is compositing, color and perspective work. Do you think it's worth it, when I'm already a Shake user?

Tough call. I'm only just now looking at Conduit between regular job tasks. If you're already an accomplished Shake user, it'll be easy to pick up. Could help do some stuff without having to go to Shake. But it ain't gonna replace Shake. Download the demo, check it out.

Hi Ben,
Conduit has the ability to export/import effects as .conduit files, so you can transfer them between installations. Look for the Open/Save buttons in the top-right corner of the Conduit Editor.

Your point about not being able to control the Channel Mixer values (for keyframing) is very good. Maybe something we can address for the next version. I'm the co-author of Conduit -- yes, I ended up on this forum through simply googling to find what people think about the software :)

Of course if you have any other comments/gripes/suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

Oh, you can save it out? Very cool! I showed it to an advanced FCP class I taught this past weekend. A few of my students geeked-out and may be jumping on this. Very nice product so far.

My biggest complaint right now is, I don't have the time to spend with it that I wish I had. Very cool plug-in!
