Concerned about Vegas

Hi all,

I always have a bad feeling about Sony dropping Vegas, or us dropping vegas.

First, No Panny MXF support, limited vegas campaigns, then the 4k projector incident with Red, and then them announcing huge loses financially.

Yes its only tools i know.

I just got this bad feeling that's all, anyone else

I don't think so. Here's my opinion:

1- Sony Media Software is a completely different division than Sony Broadcast (and all the other divisions). The divisions don't have too much control over one another and don't always talk to one another. There are many examples of this. You can consider them to be semi-autonomous (which has its advantages and disadvantages).

2- SMS has been actively adding features to Vegas, *especially* in all the minor releases. For example, HDV performance is a lot better.

3- Promotion/marketing: SMS doesn't generate huge revenues and so they do not have as much to spend as their competitors. SMS's competitors are arguably better at advertising (especially when they have much larger budgets).

4- Format support: Ok, Vegas doesn't have Panny MXF support. But Vegas has also been on top of things, especially when they originally supported the DVX100 very well.

5- It's still a very good editor.

Well, it's not Panasonic MXF support. It's the OP-ATOM MXF support, which just about everyone EXCEPT Sony uses. And the DVX intergration is better than ANYTHING, but that happened with Sonic Foundry before Sony bought it.

But yes, it's still a damn good editor. Better than all the others in many ways.

and its been my bread and butter for two years, thats i worry about it.

Agree with David, panny DVX support was offered just before Sony took over,
i was truly dissapointed like many others when panny MXF was not supported and i just purchased the HVX200:(
