Computer upgrades to handle editing...?

I will go with you guys recommendations and purchase the Vegas 6.0 editing software. My research has indicated the same thing as well - Vegas seems to be the most reliable of the bunch.

I'm now upgrading my computer system to handle editing. I'm a hands-on tech/mechanic type of guy, so naturally I built my current computer from the ground up. A faster processor and more DDR memory is a piece of cake, but my question is about using an internal or external Firewire drive and also should I invest in a dual monitor video card? If so, do you guys have any preferences or recommendations? Also, what about the single of dual monitor issue? Any preferences?

Thanks,

I think it is worth it to get a good graphics card that can handle large resolution for two screens. Also, I suggest stacking up internal harddrives, since the serial wire handles more information(therefore making it considerably faster) then a firewire external HD. But I do beleive that you should get an external HD also to back your information up. I have a radieon 9800 graphics card that can handle two monitor feeds, and 2-160GB internal HD's along with a 120 external firewire HD.

Just remmember, when it comes to bus speed, serial wires can handle more information then firewire. and if HD's are that important to you, look into mini raid systems......they do get pricey though

hope this helped

Oh, a dual head video card, for sure. Or even a triple-head card like I have. (nyeah nyeah)

One screen is never enough for all the stuff you want to do.

don't forget, if you want all out editing station, hook up a good audio card with some good monitor speakers, and im not talking computer speakers, I mean real monitor speakers that audio engineers use. Check out musiciansfriend.com, they have some good deals

After looking at Musician's Friend, look at Zotz Digital. I got my Behringers from them for a little less.

I just bought my DVX100A and plan to buy a new computer to do editing (currently I have an older Dell desktop.) I've been presuming apple is the way to go, instead of pc. Is this correct?
I need to buy a laptop to work with some clients this fall, so I was figuring I'd make it a 15 or 17" powerbook and then I can edit my video as well. I work with a lot of photography and the apple looks easier for image work.

What would you folks recommend for a computer purchase?

Some software just wont run on a mac .What do you want to run .Then choose the system. Some need a dual processor etc etc.
