computer screen vs. tv screen

There is a significant difference in my footage between my comp screen & tv screen. The comp screen has less contrast/color/saturation than the tv. Is that normal or does it sound like a problem with my comp screen? It's a Sony Trinitron but it's pretty old so i don't really trust it. I don't have another monitor handy to check. I'm sending the signal out of Vegas/Achitect through the DVX then into the tv.

And furthermore, if it IS normal to have a difference between the comp & tv, is it typical to edit (for color) your program differently for internet vs. DVD targets?

Thanks!

Yes, there is significant difference between the two -- and you should color-correct based on what your output is planned to be. If for both, then start with how it should look on a TV, and then make any adjustments needed for your web output.

A computer screen is capable of displaying much, much more detail and many, many, many more colors than a TV. What looks good on a computer screen may look horrible on a TV. So, start there.
