Compressor taking 2 hours for an 8 minute film

Is it normal for compressor to take over 2 hours to export an 8 minute short film? I'm using DVD best quality 90 minutes. This is really bugging me and I know it shouldn't take this long.

I have a Dual Core Mac
2.66 GHz
4 GB RAM

Everything is contained on my internal drive.

What footage are you encoding? HDV? Is it from a standalone file? Export to Compressor directly from FCP?

Are you trying to downconvert- say from DVCPROHD and HDV at the same time?

I dont think so. Everything I was working with was the same format.

I was trying to encode an HDV sequence exporting directly from FCP. I think the problem is that when you go directly from FCP it takes a lot longer than if you export it as a self contained quicktime and then run it through compressor.

That is correct. First export from FCP to standard definition ProRes. Then encode that file in Compressor to MPEG2. Otherwise yes it will take forever.
