Compressor making AE text jaggy

Good morning everyone,

I have a 1 min 15 sec graphics/text/music project created in After Effects (1280 x 720, 23.976 fps, square pixels) that will be displayed on an SD DVD to HD TVs. Looks great on my mac rendered in AE animation codec and Pro Res 422 HQ, but after Compressor is done with the Mpeg -2 stage it looks very pixelated around the edges of the text. I've tried 90 minutes best settings, filters, and resizing before the mpeg-2 stage and I still have jaggy edges. In fact, the Pro Res resize still looked great, it's not until the Mpeg-2 compression that it falls apart.

The project begins its onscreen run in two and a half weeks, if anyone here has the answer, even if it means re-tooling the original AE comp settings, better software (any platform) than Compressor, whatever, please post it!

Thanks all!

SD DVD is 720x480 at 4:2:0 color space. If you do any of the following you will have jagged lines:

* Solid RED GREEN or BLUE on direct BLACK or WHITE.
* small hard 1-pixel edge differences between two very bright colors (like in a graphic)

There is no way to avoid it. It's a limtation of the codec. Try re-authoring your material to avoid the above.

I have previously tried the aspect ratio and no luck and demistate, your description of problematic graphics pretty much describes the entire project, so I guess I'm stuck. Thank you both for the quick responses - that's why this is my favorite board!
