compression without 'Compressor'

Hi guys,

I need to compress a 12.5gb QT file (58 min. long) to a 4gb file (so I can burn it on a DVD). My Compressor doesn't work, and this job needs to be done in the next few days.
What would be the best&fast way to compress it using a Mac?
Should I just use FCP for it?(it takes forever, right?) can iDVD do it?

I also have a PC, are there any good compression programs for PCs?

Thanks!
L.

that size doesn't seem unusual for either FCP or iDvd to accomplish. i can't swear on it because i used the adobe suite, but any dvd authoring software could do it. obviously the more the authoring software has to squeeze it, the more quality you are going to use.

btw, nothing is fast. and best way is going to be based on your experience and software package.

i would export the mov file to burn to dvd and set it to go with best settings before you go to bed and see if your results are complete by the morning.

best of luck.
