Compression to QuickTime problem

wow... do I have a problem. My situation:

1, shot footage on 24P normal... no problem
2, edited on FCE, so 29.97 timeline... no problem.
3, export to QT... here is the problem: I can see the split frames from the pulldown. the "whole, whole, split, split, whole" pulldown formula is brought to the QT file during compression and the QT footage is naturally bad. I get 3 good frames followed by 2 bad frames. BAD! I tried various frames rates and stuff in settings but nothing solves the problem.

Anyone know how to solve this?

Nope... it's how you shot it.

My mantra... if you are going to Film/DVD/or WEB... shoot 24pA. Infact, ignore 24p all together.

yay mench

if i shoot 24pa then I need FCP, who means nowadays I have to buy FCStudio which is how much again..? (alot)

i just realised that I don't need to compress it to go QT, the file would just be a little big, so my problem is solved for now. so if i compress it the footage is screwed? you learn something new everyday.

The only reason you see the interpolated frames is because QT is playing the movie back at "high quality". Meaning it is showing the full resolution of each frame rather than showing a single field per frame.

Hence you will see the frames effected by the pulldown. This is a simple fix with Cinema Tools.. though you say you don't have FCP... so I dunno...

Your basically stuck with it like that. You could do a de-interlace on the footage, using an interpolation method, that would eliminate the interlaced frames, but it would also degrade the quality of the intact frames.

I think you are SOL at the moment..
