Compression Settings for Web?

I'm not having good luck finding good compression settings for youtube or vimeo.

It seems like all the videos I watch on youtube or vimeo look great where as mine seem to have blocky artifacts

Obviously I must be doing something wrong.

My Workflow:

C100 - AVCHD
Transcode to ProRes LT via 5D to RGB
Edit in FCP7
Export Master to ProRes LT
Compress in MPEG Streamclip
Upload to YouTube

The footage looks perfect going into MPEG and looks fine coming out, but as soon as I upload it, it looks like absolute crap.

I heard recently that youtube upped their data limit to 50,000 Kbps so I tried that with little improvement.

Here are my MPEG Streamclip Settings:

What am I doing wrong? :crybaby:

I am not using the same codecs or workflow as you as I use .wmv. But settings aside I noticed a dramatic improvement when I upgraded to a Vimeo Plus account which uses 2-pass encoding. My videos mostly contain high motion water scenes which are a torture test for image quality. When I post the same video to Youtube and Vimeo, the Vimeo one always looks better with much less artifacting.

@Mark Completely agree with you. I do have a Vimeo Plus account and it looks much much better than YouTube. But it seems like the only way I can get decent looking video on Vimeo is to skip the compression step all together and just upload the ProRes Master.

Do you have another compression tool?

Also, how long are you waiting to view your file. Sometimes they take a bit to convert your files to 720 and 1080P streaming versions.
