I remember not too long ago when I used to cringe at the idea of youtube recompressing my videos and when it was so important to make compressions from the highest quality source files. These days it just seems that codecs have gotten so good and your already starting with a full HD source (even if its compressed) that recompression/scaling barely makes that big of a difference and isn't worth the time it takes to make ideal compressions for clients.
For instance, when i shoot event videos I typically deliver on blu-ray, however, a lot of my clients want SD DVD, video on flash drives etc. I would normally export each format out of media encoder and scale sequences specially for the presentation format needed. This takes a lot of time and I find it to be decent enough to just export a blu ray h.264 and have adobe encore just export my menu and project for SD DVD as well as a flash version for PC playback.
I'm I just getting lazy and content or is the quality close enough that it isn't worth the time anymore these days?
