compression issues

Hello all,

Anyone tried this work flow.?

Working with a 1/2 hr show DVC PRO HD 720p 24pn> export self contained movie from FCP>Open compressor and compress fcp self contained movie file to DV anamorphic> then compress that file for DVD using 90 min preset mpeg/ac3.

Here is the problem. I am experiencing pixilation with the encode at various points in the final DVD. Am I doing something wrong?

A,

Thanks. You know I did try this and the image still looked jaggy? Is there a certain preset i should set up for in Compressor to alleviate the jaggy edges? The shows duration is 1/2 hr.

I recently completed a 1 hour DVCProHD originated program that was delivered on SD-DVD. We down converted from DVCProHD (opened it in an) uncompressed SD time
line in FCP and then encoded the uncompressed SD Quicktime.

Things to watch out for is to make sure any graphics, scale (in the motion tab) or motion be done using whole even numbers.

Our project came out great.

Chuck,

I will try this. First take the self contained movie and open in a SD uncompressed timeline. Drop the movie there and then export to compressor? The graphics need to be whole numbers? Could you give me an idea on what you mean? Never really noticed this part.

Generally I don't use Compressor, I use VisualHub for quick test encodes and all our projects are sent to the DVD author/encoder and I'm not sure what they use.

Regarding whole numbers, anytime you change the scale or translate an image make sure the numbers in the value field of the parameter your changing is something like Scale: 76 percent and not 75.087 or X: 250 Y: -120, not X: 239.35, etc.. If the value is a fraction FCP needs to filter the result and it doesn't do a very good job.

This doesn't always make a difference, however if you get in the habit of doing this it generally makes standards conversions look much better.

Where are you located in Montana?
