Compressing the final mix for TV

I have two travel documentaries almost ready for TV. I have mixed the levels so that the peaks are never over -6-3dB (digital scale), VU hovering aroud -20 to -12(digital).

I have never needed to compress the audio before. So, what kind of settings do people use for TV programming, not for effect but clarity.

The editor is PPro 1.5 and it surely has a plugin for this (have not looked for it yet). Or I could use Audition.
 
usually you need to mix it that the loudest would not go over -10dbfs for broadcast as it would be squash with tv station limiters on its output , better check with the tv station about what they do expect
