Compressing CF24 HDV to Mpeg 2 for DVD...

I recently finished editing a behind the scenes featurette that was shot entirely on the FX1 in HDV using the Cineframe 24 mode. Right now I am having some difficulties with the compression to put it on DVD. I am using FCP 5 for the edit and using Compressor to output the mpeg 2. Here is my workflow:

Capture 1080i HDV into FCP
Edit online in HDV
Export 1080i Quicktime
Drop 1080i Quicktime into compressor
Compress using mpeg2 at 60min high quality w/ PCM audio

Here is my problem:

The footage comes out looking EXTREMELY strobey. I know the cineframe mode isnt supposed to look as good as real 24, but it looks terrible. Both the quicktime and the tape output copy do not have this problem, only the version that has been converted to mpeg2. Am I missing a step? Is there an intermediate step to bring the HDV down to SD res before putting it in compressor? I tried bringing the 1080i quicktime into a NTSC timeline then exporting it as such, but I got the same super strobey result. Any help would be great, thanks.

Sounds like some interlacing problem. If I remember correctly...you cannot resize interlaced footage, especially vertical size (720>480) and 1080x720 is interlaced. So you have to deinterlace it first and then resize to SD-s 720x480 and then to MPEG2 encoder.
Using adaptive deinterlacer gives sharper image than simple deinterlacing.

Thanks for the info. Is it possible that this could be a field dominace problem also? Im not sure what field should be dominant with the HDV footage as well as what field to make dominant when using compressor. Thanks.

Yes, could also be field dominance problem. In DV compression there's always bottom field first and I got same strobing when MPEG2 encoder is set to top field first, but seen only in final DVD recording (DVD player>TV), not on computer screen.
Hard to say what field order FX1 gives...but you can always change it in encoder (compressor).

I think you might have nailed it. I did not see the strobing until I played the dvd on a standard TV. Plus the default setting in compressor is to the top field. I am compressing it with the bottom feild first right now, ill let you know if it works. Thanks.
