Compresser unable to connect to background process?

Hi, I'm just getting started on burning my project onto DVD and I'm using Compresser and DVD Studio Pro for the first time. Usually I just exported through Quicktime and used iDVD.

Well I'm trying to export my sequence out through compresser but I am running into problems. I do everything as the instructions tell me. I use the correct output preset, put it in the appropriate destination folder, but when I press the submit button, a message pops up that tells me:

"Unable to connect to background process"

I tried searching the forums and the instruction manual but I couldn't find anything about this. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help me out please?

I have had this before. May be a little glitch.

Try copying your entire sequence and then paste it into a new sequence. That sometimes does it!

I'm getting this exact same error message whenever I try to batch anything--doesn't matter what it is. I tried the cutting and repasting thing, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. The interesting thing is that the computer's claiming that the Batch Monitor software was modified roughly two days ago; I wasn't using it at the time it stated. I have a feeling this is what's behind it, and I hope the software's not completely buggered; when I archived everything a while back, I happened to make the oversight of archiving everything *but* the Batch Monitor file--I think I lumped it in with Compressor at the time, thinking if one was afftected the other'd be. But this is basically a big cry for help, 'cause I'm basically screwed without it when it comes to monitoring 24p footage to MPEG-2. What's the most likely scenario?

Have you tried re-installing Compressor from scratch. You may be missing some of the components...

Cutting and pasting only sometimes works if it is screwing up just one encode - there must be a glitch in the software which is bypassed if you encode from a new sequence.

Yup. Tried reinstalling that, DVDSP, got the Compressor 2 update (I'm running on Final Cut Studio).

I just looked at the forums on Apple.com. It seems like everyone's getting this message, and it doesn't matter whether it's Compressor 1.2.1 or Compressor 2. These are people who just bought the full versions and they're getting the error; there's a theory that it's because of something in Tiger's coding rather than the software itself. What happened to my computer supports that theory, considering I never had a problem with Compressor until I upgraded.

did anyone find an logical answer to this problem? I experience the same thing right at the last gasp of compressing my ZombieFest entry - I did a complete reinstall at 3am of FCP 5 over 4.5 and that finally fixed it...

I don't know about everyone else, but I found this fix to work.

Reinstalling compressor like the Apple article suggests fixed it, but only temporarily. Apparently, it was all because of qmaster.
