compress

When using compressor to encode a 24p dvd, what should the audio setting be set at? I got drop-outs all throughout a dvd I did, especially in the music sections. Could it have been the wrong settings?

After checking the clips, I realized it was the 'quick time' clip from FCP. Are there any certain settings I should be following? I followed Graeme Nattress' instructions:
Export with quick time (No compression), import into compressor.

Should I be exporting out of FCP right into compressor instead of making a quicktime clip first???

The only difference between exporting a QT self-contained movie and going out directly from FCP is this; when going from FCP out to Compressor, Compressor ignores all your FCP render files, looks directly at the source files, makes more intelegent determinations, and gives you a slight edge in image quality. But it takes a long time to encode.

Using a QuickTime movie, the file is based on FCP's render files, so it encodes faster, but there is a very slight image quality loss, as you're encoding the existing render files as FCP was set up to do them.

So, either way gives the same results, uses the same QT encoder engine, just slightly different image quality issues. And the image quality issues are not always so glaring as to make any difference.

If you do go to Compressor directly from FCP, it ties up FCP and Compressor at the same time for the duration of the encode, as Compressor and FCP are trading off info non-stop. Going to a QT movie and then to Compressor, you will be able to launch FCP and edit as Compressor encodes. Depending on your hardware set up, this may or may not have any effect on FCP's peformance during editing.

The 24p shouldn't make a huge difference. One thing I know some editors do is to drop their 24p Seqeucne into a 60i Sequence first, render, then make the MPEG-2 files for DVD authoring. This is another very quick and reliable way to do the convertion.

MY PERSONAL WORKFLOW-
My personal workflow and recommendation is to get BitVice (http://www.innobits.se), but get the BitVice Pro version! Costs more, but is very worth it. VERY worth it! Much faster encoding than Compressor. Not nessisarily better quality, but very nice and fast and easy. Export a QT movie and open it in BitVice.

Details?

Details?

Lake,

Can you give us more details about the thing...

1) What did you shoot at to begin with?

2) What is your sequence setting?

3) What settings or what preset are you using in compressor?

cheers.
