I filmed a video the other day, and I want to composite in what's going on in the studio into the monitor in the control room, I know it would have been easier if I just shot and played it, but there wasn't really a way at the time, so this is what I have.... my shot's are moving...... the problem I'm having is I just end up with a 50\50 split .... ( I' haven't composited before) I've setup my parent track and selected multiply, and added the mask generator.... but Now I'm stumped how do I just take one track of footage and insert it into the green all shrunk down to normal size while maintain what's going on it the rest of the non green section......???? plus any other tip's on the tracking or keyframing that' going to have to be done.......

Hi Nick

A 50/50 Split? What is that?

I'm assuming to get your footage 'shrunk down' you're going to half to use the PAN/CROP tool on that track.

One issue I forsee is that youy say the camera is moving; isn't this where Motion Control comes into play?

I take it you are not using Chroma Key on this one?

The above shot is an Example of what I quickly did in Photoshop and is what I want to do with in vegas, What I mean about moving is, that my camera isn't sitting still, It's not on a tripod, so when I composite I'll need to Keyframe.... BY 50/50 split I mean the best I've been able to accomplish with the composite is 50% of the one track showing in the final and 50% of the other track..... ( like 50% transparecy both images merged together) when I use the pan and crop Like I read in the help guide of vegas I can shrink it down, but then I end up with on the video of the girl in the monitor and that's it, no image of the two sitting at there station's.... just black.... Maybe there's something I'm not clicking or a setting I'm not doing.... So basically if anyone know's how I go into vegas and just start with the first image I' have shown, to get the last image I' have would really help.....

For something like this, you want to use track motion instead of pan/crop. You have a lot more flexibility in resizing, angling, and moving an image around than you do with pan/crop (which is best for moving around inside an image). It’s much more intuitive, too.

Can you post a screenshot of a bad result?

this is what I mean by 50/50 split,

now I haven't resized the image yet, but just image the girl shrunk down like in the picture before, now only that's all that's there, the rest of the image is black..... there's something I'm missing here??, if someone know's compositing in Vegas I'd apreciate the step's

Aha! You've discovered that chromakey is hard to get right! You're dealing with spill and with the fact that you have other green objects in the picture.

Fortunately for what you want to do, much of this problem will be alleviated because you just want the picture on the monitor, and you'll shrink the picture -- so it won't shine through the rest of the top layer. But you'll have dark and transparent spots where anything else that might be below it (in a third layer, maybe) will show through.

You can adjust the low-in and high-in settings in the Chromakey editor; it should help.
