Composing shots during rain

A shot that i really like from the movie '28 days later'. The shot was taken directly from above (over the head) covering steps that come from the building to the roof. It was night and the rain kept pouring - a soldier steps quickly to the roof. The rain drops could be seen very clearly, as if dropping from the camera to the roof. I think they used a high shutter speed. You could actually see the individual rain droplets.

Anyway, i want to compose a similar shot of a static object when it rains. Any suggestions on how to do it without harming the camera with nature's droplets?
What would i need to make this shot possible? :)

Re: Composing shots during rain

Okay, this is Guerrilla style: compose your shot, it makes sense to use some sort of water protective plastic on the camera itself, additional protection can come from a cardboard box turned upside down to protect the camera. Gaffer tape black plastic garbage bag to the box for additional protection. The camera should be deep into the box so you will definitely have to zoom in order to not see the edges of the cardboard box. This should work assuming you will record foley (sound of the water dropping) later. If its a static shot you can use the remote control of the DVX to push record, being that it would be in accessible with the back of the camera inside the box. Bore a hole for tripod mount or as I have seen, mini tripods work great here.
