Component Cable

I need a longer component cable than the HVX200 comes with, anyone know where to get one?

Your help is appreciated.

Is this a serious question?

You bought a video camera, surely you must know where to buy a longer S-Cable or RCA cable. Here's a few suggestions in case you don't know.

In the Americas: Radio Shack, Safeway, Home Depot, Longs Drugs, 7 Eleven, Blockbuster Video, Grocery Outlet, Goodwill, Salvation Army, look on the ground.

Other countries: Seven 11, look on the ground, your neighbors house.

sorry about sounding annoyed, but really.

The one that comes with the camera isn't exactly standard fair but thanks A LOT, I'll check 7-11 first thing!

Weird some people don't know what a component cable is, really.

There is an early thread on the Creative Cow under the HVX200 forum where Jan from Panasonic and I and a few others ordered one I'd guess is about 15 feet. It does have a bit more noise and slight loss of chroma but is good for non-citical monitoring and focus. As well, you can purchase a quality RCA barrel, a good quality component cable and extend it that way. I'd really wrap the barrel in insulating tape, which can be purchased at you local 7-11 in a pinch, to protect from interference etc. Given time I'll look back for the site to order the factory one.

Best of luck,

I think he was looking for a component to D4 Connector like what is shipped with the HVX except longer those are a little harder to find than a 7-11.

I hope your not living in Europe bluegrey ! I ordered the Iodata 5m cable from Iodata Uk, I needed it for use with a jib. They charged me 150.00 Euro for the cable plus delivery thats approx 191 US dollars. The same cable is available at
Digital Connection for 35 US Dollars.

No disrespect to you guys in the U.S but when it comes to equipment you really have the best of choices. I am living in Ireland and there is a 40-50% increase in price for everything I buy. Its a monopoly or else a duopoly for suppliers here. Importing from the US is not an option either as we are charged crazy shipping charges plus customs charges. What I would give for a B@H or similar store here !!!

Bluegrey - i completely apologize for my tone and sarcasm. I am ignorant to the flavors of component cables. When I hear component I think of S-Video which is component too. The only component cable I have had much experience with. I have hooked up RGB component cables from my DVD player to my monitor but didn't like the color it produced so I ditched it. Super apologies.

Wow Ian,
Very respectful of you. You earned a big two thumbs up from me for the apologies if we had more attitudes like that we wouldn't have half the problems we do in this world.

Ditto, big cudos for the apology. Wish more would follow your lead. And to all my ex-wifes, I'm not sorry ONE BIT!!

It seems as though the component cable that comes with the HVX is a little wimpy. Particularly, on the component conection end the wires are a very small gauge -- I'm afraid of breaking them. Any thoughts? Any problems?

I've been looking for a really short version of the D4 to component cable, but not had a whole lot of luck. I'm thinking this might be something worth having custom made so I can spec BNC connectors and also that the D4 connector be a right angle - I've done this with firewire cables to limit the amount the cable sticks out.

Anyone had any luck finding short (18" to 20") D4 to Component cables?

I just strapped the existing D4 cable to the HVX's "handle" and used RCA couplers to lengthen the cable using a standard Component Video cable. This way I have the best of two worlds: I don't have to buy an expensive and hard to find D4 cable, and there isn't any stress on the D4 connection on my HVX -- if someone trips over the cable, or pulls too far away, it will simply pull loose from the couplers.

Even a large jolt won't hurt too much (aside from maybe knocking over the camera), as any stress will simply be on the HVX's handle, which is more than strong enough to handle it.

If I want to run component cable from the HVX to a monitor on set, how long can the cable be before I begin to have image problems? 25 feet? 40 feet?

interesting link on D4

D-terminals, which the EIAJ (Electronic Industry Association of Japan) provided, were adopted for use in digital satellite broadcast tuners. A strong point of D-terminals is that they include video signals (Y, Po, Pr) and control signals which are able to distinguish a video signal format, allowing only one necessary connector to hook up.
TV receivers currently have two systems; a present standard television (SDTV) receiver and a Hi-Vision (HDTV) receiver. There is also a variety in TV sets, in the number of scanning lines and scanning format. For this, D-terminals are provided which are compatible to each visual signal format.
TV sets which are not equipped with D-terminals should be connected to a S-terminal for standard video signal (480i) and to a Component terminal for Hi-Vision video signal(1080i) .
