DISCLAIMER: I know this has been posted but, well, I STILL AIN'T GETTIN IT!!
I just bought FCP 5 and I have been trying to get smooth slow mo. If I record myself, say, doing jumping jacks in 24pa, how can I get a "99 problems and a B*&%+ ain't one" slo mo? Why is it so difficult to achieve? I'm not that DV savvy. I appreciate any input. Thanks

Well the more frames you have, the smoother your slomo will be. If you record 24pa, that is the least amount of frames you can get. Shooting 30p will get you some more. If you use Cinema Tools to conform 30p to 24p, you'll slow down your clip by something around 25%. Now if you shoot 60i, that with a little trick will give you 60 frames by seperating the fields. They will have half the vertical resolution but your motion will be smooth as silk. playing around 66% slower. There are different ways of achieving this. One is by using Nattress Standards Conversion in FCP. The other would using After Effects. Hope this helps!
