Compatibility save

Drew Ott

Wish I were banned.
I have a project in Vegas 8 that I desperately need to be opened in Vegas 7. I'm not sure if there is a compatibility-mode save option.

Vegas 8 keeps crashing when I try to open a huge thing of files. I've tried nearly everything. I thought it was using all of my RAM, but I just bought 2gig more and it's still crashing.

Is it possible that a file is corrupt and it's causing the entire thing to crash? It doesn't crash if I leave media offline and continue working from there, but I don't know how I should render out.

Anything helps.

I'm actually using a trial of Vegas 8, but I can't open it in Vegas 7 where I originally started working because my .veg is for Vegas 8. I don't think Vegas 7 was having any problems.

I managed to save the project as a text file before Vegas 8 crashed, and tried to open in Vegas 7. Nearly half of the files were missing for some reason. They weren't offline, they were just blank events.

So I just tried rendering even after the error message popped up. Apparently my system is low on memory. I have 4gigs and Vista 32bit is reading 3.2gig. That is plenty because at crash it's only using 61% RAM.

OK...

I did a bunch of testing. It seems that Vegas is crashing every time my page files hit in the upper 2300s. I was editing with it for a few days flawlessly, but all of the sudden it crashes every single time.

I believe I have this problem: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/871399#871399

Only thing is, I can't convert any file types now because the clips are already edited and in the timeline. I can't open and try to render out parts because it will just crash. It's too late to start over because my deadline is Friday.

Ouch.

I had no trouble until I started needing 2 gigs of RAM for my project.

Thanks for your help.

I've figured a way around my problem anyway. I'm moving all the clips for each scene into their own folder and then deleting all of the files from the big folder with all of the clips. Vegas asks where to look and I direct it to just one of the folders where only one scene is. I leave the rest offline and then render that one scene, and I'll splice them all together. A pain, yes -- but it works.

Thanks again.
