Commercial Scripts sought

Hi

In order to put a director's reel together I search ad commercial scripts. They should be cheap to produce and need an international appeal. Featured products must be fictitious, brand names will be replaced (legal issues).

As my intention is advertising. I would consider crazy ideas (at its best ideas which are visual challenging) much stronger than dialogue. I make an expception for off-dialogue here.

Cheers

I'd advise you to find an aspiring copywriter or advertiser and work in tandem with them. Writing for commercials is a really specialized, difficult trade. Find someone who wants to do it specifically, and you'll both benefit!

Also, I'm not sure where you're located, but I don't believe there are any legal issues with using real brands in your spec commercials - or if there are, they are ignored. It is in fact the preferred way of building a spec reel.

Yes, use real brands. Even if a prospective ad agency knows they're looking at a spec reel, they'd rather see a spec reel with genuine products. Don't ask me why, that's just how we are.

Hi

Thanks a lot for your inputs.

I'm located in Switzerland. I've already contacted some ad agencies if they have scripts available that were to risky. There wasn't anything or the agencies are to small (we have not a very big tv market). So, were should I look for this aspiring copywriter?

I thought about putting them on the web also, that definitely would be illegal, so I probably make a fake and real brand version.

Cheers

Really? Showing brands in spec ads online is illegal in Switzerland? Bummer. If there are any ad clubs over there that the agency people belong to, attend one of their events and hook up with some writers. Trust me, every writer (good and bad) has a ton of scripts they'd love to see produced but got killed at some point. I'd send you a few of mine, but they have a very American bent, humor-wise. Most of my stuff is very dialog-driven.

Tell you what: give me a prompt (brand, product, overall theme/genre you're going for) and I'll see if I can't whip something up for you.

The brand thing is unfortunate. Quite the opposite is true here.

Well, I think as illegal as everywhere. Coca Cola is a registered Trademark, worth billions. The probability that they sue some little filmmaker who shots a fictious ad is small, but... it doesn't matter if it's commercial usage or not. Technically it's their logo.

I will run a search for those writers. I've contacted some creative directors so far. The response wasn't great, but they are already established.

@dougspice

I always wanted to do a commercial for a big sports brand (Nike, Adidas), shouldn't contain dialogue, natural setting like a city / street, probably a little bit absurd and bizzare. Very low budget.

Oh, hey man, I totally forgot about this. I'll see if I can't come up with something next week when I'm flying around on airplanes with nothing else to do.
