Commercial in 16:9?

I am doing a commercial and I like to do everything 16:9. What are your guys' thoughts on this? Do you think it will look weird at all?

I've seen it before on some commercials, just not alot of them.

I'm almost sure that 60-70% of commercials (at least in italy) are shot 16mm or 35mm (1.66:1 or 1.85:1)...
But... if you own a dvx100 then... you better go with the old 4:3 format (cropped 4:3 looks terrible on widescreen tv's)
 
IBM does 16x9 commercials and i think they are pretty cool.

but, i do think that most commercials are 4:3 for a reason...they are paying alot to have these things aired...so they might as well get the most bang for their buck....at least as far as screen area goes.

most people have 4:3 tvs...it will be so nice when everyone gets a 16x9 screen...having to work in 4x3 blows.

Why do you say that? Are you one of those people that likes interesting compositions or something?

I love how the IBM commercials color their mask blue.

hehehe...

i probably shouldnt be too hard on 4:3...there are something things it can work great for...like close ups and full body shots...it gives you more space...there are some nice examples of some 4:3 videos. but most of the time the 4:3 stuff always reminds me of soap operas.
 
What about that Dodge Magnum commercial, where it's in 16x9 for a while until the guy driving gets out and grabs the "mask" pieces and puts them in the back of the car making it 4x3? That was an interesting idea....though I can't remember what the phrasing was regarding what that all meant...something about the car being bigger or needing more space or something.
 
I like the creative use of masks to imply 16:9. That way you can intergrate them into your design and add some creative touches like the aforementioned Dodge Magnum commercial.
