Comment on Dark Knight

As many of you probably know, the DVD release of Dark Knight comes with the 6 IMAX sequences displayed in their original framing, ect

It's just interesting to watch those sequences, and see the extremely shallow depth of field, even at longer subject to camera distances.

I was really disappointed with the DVD release. There was limited 'how it was done/behind the scenes', a few 'imax' clips, and this really dumb 6 episode pseudo evening news spot deal...

Of course, the other item about imax... it's 4:3 aspect ratio...

I have the bluray version. looks incredible.

not so much on the bts...

just a "psychological profile" and a "batman tech" featurette....

The Bluray looks great, and I thought the batman tech feature was awesome and worth the price alone (like the BTS test footage of a bungie jump onto a wire attached to a helicopter, and the Batpod tests). A commentary is the only thing I was really missing.

I did not like the break in aspect ratio when cutting between Imax and 35mm formats. I think the blueray should have just stuck to the 2.40 aspect ratio.... especially when it's on a 1080 disc.

There was no need, in my opinion, to show imax stuff in imax framing when the resolution is 2k or less.

The breaking of the aspect ratios would jar me out of the film. Which, may I add, is the first rule NOT to do when thinking about cinematography. I have a feeling Nolan and Wally would both agree with me and this is purely in the disc for marketing 'special features' motivations.

I didn't like the 'IMAX' segement either... what was it really for... ok, IMAX is 4:3... ok, one can burn a lot of film quickly... isn't it 70mm... So... ok... is there a modern Lean that's going to pack the camera out to Arabia and remake Lawrence???

Tropic Thunder had one good BTS part where the actors did take after take of the same dialogue, I believe they used a whole mag of film for each actor for that dialogue.
