Coming over from avid

So I am coming over from avid and Am a Little new to everything but have to get spooled up fast. (the camera guy in Jail) I need to capture some MMA fight footage and some interviews for a short documentary and possible local ad spots on tv. that being said here is the equipment I will be using:

an HVX 200
a dvx 100
FCP

So I guess my questions ave what formats to Shoot in and what to edit in? I will have DVcprohd on the HVx

any advice on formats or workflow would be awesome as I am new to final cut and apple pro res.

Well, the DVX isn't an HD camera, it is DV, so that won't aid in your "as HD as possible." And since DVDs aren't HD, only BluRay is...do you really need HD? The HVX-200 also shoots DV in the tape drive. But if you need HD, then shoot HD to the P2 cards with the HVX, and avoid using the DVX. That won't be HD no matter what.

What format do you shoot? What format are you looking to deliver other than DVD? If only DVD, then shoot and edit DV, as DVDs aren't HD.

And if you shoot DVCPRO HD with the P2 camera, you won't be using ProRes at all. DVCPRO HD P2 can only come in as DVCPRO HD.

ok well let me narrow down my questions, my Last was a Little broad. I normally have video shot@108060Ifromthehwxand I edit it in avid I noticed that avid doesn't efficently use my computer so I moved to FCP. I do a reasonable amount of graphics and need the action to be as crisp and clear as possible. Avid worked pretty well with the interlaced footage. I noticed that FCP (to me) seemed to like ProgressIve footage. the final output will be DVD and web. I am wondering If maybe it should be shot in progressive from the get go. Now Some people are probably going to post links to other forms or what not or say search, I have.. I'm just looking for someone who has done this before with the Same equipment ie. the hvx camera and fcp.

Ok- so um what's the question then? the FCP handles progressive video just fine from the HVX and DVX.

i guess the question is witch would be better then for filming action (the fights) 60i or 30p? and when i do a project in finalcut the output size ends up being 1280X1080 not 1920X1080 ? -- is that right?

60i. Sports pretty much demands 60i.

And no, when you do the final output it WILL NOT be 1280x1080. It will be 1920x1080. Depending on what you output to. if you go to DVCPRO HD tape, it will be 1280x1080, but anamorphic that stretches out to 1920x1080. If you output to HDCAM...1920x1080. BluRay...same. regular DVD...720x480...
